Springfield sustainability efforts praised by state, national experts

Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Sara Parker Pauley shares her insights on Springfield’s environmental protection and sustainability efforts. She and Karl Brooks, Director of United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region 7, praised Springfield civic and business leaders for their dedication to sustainability and protection of the environment, at a ribbon cutting Oct. 4 for the opening the City’s new Environmental Resource Center.

The center, remodeled with a goal of qualifying for a minimum of LEED silver, provides a space to consolidate the City’s environmental services. In this space, employees dedicated to solid waste management, environmental compliance, water and air quality, clean water services, and sustainability, work together to ensure an integrated approach to the City’s complex issues.
