Hotel/Motel Tax
1m 19s
On November 4, Springfield voters will be asked whether or not to approve a 3% hotel/motel tax increase to fund a regional convention and events center in downtown Springfield. The tax would be paid by lodging and short-term rental guests, not Springfield residents. This allows Springfield to invest in major economic development without burdening local taxpayers. A new regional convention and events center could bring more visitors to Springfield for conferences, trade shows, concerts and sporting events and serve as a catalyst for additional downtown revitalization. Increased visitor traffic means more spending at restaurants, shops, hotels and attractions – supporting small businesses and helping create jobs.
